PROFILE – DR EMMA LOGAN

BPsych(Hons), PhD (Counselling Psychology), MAPS

I am an endorsed Counselling Psychologist providing counselling and psychotherapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I have experience working across the lifespan, providing services and supports in schools, community mental health, and residential aged care. I believe it is important to recognise the person first, before collaboratively working to set individual goals and address the problem the person is facing. My approach is client-centred and seeks to offer a respectful, safe, and non-judgemental space for clients to explore their difficulties, adopt positive coping strategies, find meaning, and enhance their psychological wellbeing.

I provide assessment, formulation, diagnosis, and treatment for a range of psychological problems and life issues including:

  • Grief and loss

  • Illness, death, and bereavement

  • Depression and low mood

  • Anxiety disorders

  • Stress and coping

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Personality disorders

  • Adjustment to life transitions

  • Work-related issues

  • Low self-esteem

  • Relationship difficulties

  • Family conflict and separation

In 2017, I completed a PhD in the area of disenfranchised grief and social support. As such, I have a particular interest in the importance of relational attachment in people’s lives and give focus to how individuals can internalise important relationships, develop resilience in the face of life-changing events, and learn to live with significant losses.

My approach is integrative and places primary focus on the therapeutic alliance as a confidential and safe space for healing and growth. Treatment modalities I draw upon include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Schema Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Existential Therapy, Attachment-Informed Grief Therapy, and other evidence-based models. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

I accept referrals from individuals, GPs, psychiatrists, paediatricians, other allied health professionals, and EAP providers. I am able to offer rebates for Medicare and most private health funds at the time of payment.
