PROFILE - NICOLE COWPER

I began my career while completing my undergraduate psychology degree as an ABA therapist, delivering early intervention services to children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. My interest in working with children and families flourished while completing my masters degree, and I completed my research dissertation in the area of infant mental health. I recently completed the requirements for endorsement as a Counselling Psychologist.

I have spent the past two years working for a community agency delivering therapeutic interventions to clients from all ages and backgrounds, and with a variety of mental health concerns.  I have experience using many psychotherapeutic approaches, as I believe in a client-centred approach to therapy; that is, I work closely with my clients to ensure that the approach taken to therapy is aligned with the needs, goals, and preferences of the individual or family. While I work across the lifespan, I have experience and a passion for working with children and their families (including infants) who are experiencing difficulties.

Psychological Assessment for Children and Adolescents

Psychometric assessment can be an important part in determining the individual needs of a child. The identification of individual strengths and weaknesses, developmental difficulties, and intellectual/cognitive functioning can be important in formulating suitable intervention. I currently conduct assessments for the following:

  • Psychosocial difficulties, including suspected social, emotional, and behavioural impairments.

  • ADHD

  • Intellectual and cognitive functioning

  • Learning difficulties

Not all difficulties require psychometric assessment; an initial consult will include a developmental interview, psychosocial assessment, and formulation to determine the needs of the child. For more information regarding psychometric assessment please call 0435 550 317, or email ncowper.psych@gmail.com.
